Back to school – an evening routine for teens.
All summer they went to bed after midnight and got up around noon. A few days until the first day of school, and mornings are shaping up like a battlefield. A familiar scene in many homes. The good news: a teen's sleep rhythm can be shifted gently – without rows, if you start early enough and in small steps.
Why teenagers go to bed later
During puberty the body clock naturally shifts later – a teen gets sleepy later than an adult and wakes later too. That's biology, not „laziness”. Holidays only reinforce the shift. So the goal isn't to „force” sleep, but to gradually move bedtime and wake time earlier.

How to gently rebuild the rhythm before school
- Start 5–7 days ahead. Move bedtime and wake time earlier by 15–20 minutes each day.
- A fixed wake time. Morning waking sets the clock most strongly – even at weekends.
- Morning light. An open window or a short trip outside in the morning speeds up the shift.
- Screens away from bed in the evening. Keeping the phone out of the bedroom is one of the most effective changes.
- A repeatable evening. Shower, book, dim light – the same steps every night.
You won't win the rhythm with one „earlier” night. You win it with a few evenings that look alike.
Where a weighted blanket fits in
In the evening the hardest part is winding down – a tired body but a head full of the day's stimuli. A weighted blanket acts as part of the routine: even, gentle pressure gives the body a clear signal that it's time to relax. Many teens feel a sense of being „hugged” under it that makes falling asleep easier. It supports the evening routine – it isn't a therapeutic method.

Safety and choosing the weight for a teen
Pandreamora weighted blankets are safe from age 3. For children and teens we start lighter than for adults – roughly around 5% of body weight to begin with, and you can set the weight and size in the calculator. Younger models are in the kids' collection, and heavier options for older teens are in the adults' collection. The child should be able to remove the blanket on their own.
Frequently asked questions
From what age is a weighted blanket safe?
Our blankets are safe from age 3. The child should be able to slide the blanket off themselves, and the weight should match their body weight.
How much should a teen's blanket weigh?
Start at around 5% of body weight and pick a specific model in the calculator. It's better to go slightly lighter than too heavy.
Will a blanket fix difficult mornings?
It won't replace shifting the rhythm, but it can support evening wind-down as part of a routine. A fixed wake time and morning light make the biggest difference.
